Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

1. Who are we?

LingoDeutsch.com is a German language learning platform that publishes daily news articles simplified for A2, B1 and B2 learners. The platform is operated by krishnanramesh13@gmail.com. For questions about this privacy policy, please contact us via the contact form on our website.

2. What data do we collect?

We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide our service:

• Account data — when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We store your name and email address in our database.

• Learning preferences — your chosen German level (A2, B1 or B2) and reading history, so we can show you articles at the right level and track your progress.

• Reading activity — which articles you have read and when, used to display your reading streak and progress.

• Contact form — your name, email address and message, used only to respond to your enquiry. We do not store contact form submissions in a database.

• Usage analytics — anonymised page view data via Vercel Analytics (no personal identifiers).

3. How do we use your data?

We use your data solely to provide and improve the LingoDeutsch service:

• To display your reading history, streak and level preference across sessions. • To send you a welcome email when you first sign up. • To notify us (the operator) when a new user signs up. • To respond to messages sent via the contact form.

We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell your data to third parties, and we do not share your data with anyone except the service providers listed below.

4. Sign-in with Google (OAuth)

We use Google OAuth 2.0 to handle sign-in. When you click "Sign in with Google" you are redirected to Google's login page. We receive only the basic profile information you have authorised (name, email, profile picture). We do not receive or store your Google password. You can revoke LingoDeutsch's access to your Google account at any time via your Google Account settings at myaccount.google.com.

5. Cookies and sessions

We use the following cookies:

• Session cookie — strictly necessary to keep you logged in. This cookie does not track you across other websites.

• Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _gid) — used to analyse website traffic and improve the service. These cookies collect anonymised usage data. You can opt out at any time using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

We do not use advertising cookies or sell cookie data to third parties.

6. Third-party services

LingoDeutsch uses the following external services:

• Google OAuth — for authentication. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy

• Neon (PostgreSQL) — to store your account data, level preference and reading activity securely in a cloud database hosted in the US with SOC 2 compliance.

• Sanity.io — to manage and serve article content. Sanity stores article content only, not personal data of visitors.

• Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services — to generate text-to-speech audio for shadowing mode. Your text input (article content) is sent to Azure for audio generation. Microsoft's privacy policy applies.

• Resend — to send welcome emails and contact form notifications. Resend processes email addresses temporarily to deliver messages.

• Google Analytics — to analyse website traffic and usage patterns. Google Analytics uses cookies and may process your IP address. This data is anonymised and used only to improve the website. You can opt out via the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy

• Vercel — to host the website. Vercel may process your IP address as part of request handling and provides privacy-friendly analytics.

• Google Fonts — to load web fonts. Google may process your IP address. See Google's privacy policy for details.

7. Data retention

We retain your account data and reading activity for as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, contact us via the contact form and we will remove your data within 5 working days. Contact form messages are not stored in a database and exist only in our email inbox.

8. Your rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the following rights:

• Right of access — you can request a copy of the data we hold about you. • Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data. • Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten"). • Right to restriction — you can ask us to limit how we use your data. • Right to object — you can object to processing of your data. • Right to data portability — you can request your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the contact form. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Security

We take the security of your data seriously. Our website uses HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. Our database (Neon) uses encryption at rest. We use NextAuth.js for secure session management with encrypted session tokens. We do not store passwords — authentication is handled entirely by Google.

10. Changes to this policy

We reserve the right to update this privacy policy at any time. Changes will be published on this page with an updated date. We recommend checking this page periodically. For significant changes we will notify registered users by email.

11. Contact

If you have questions about this privacy policy or wish to exercise your data rights, please contact us via the contact form on our website. We aim to respond within 5 working days.
